The “Big Volunteer Event” is being organised by Oxfordshire Community and Voluntary Action (OCVA) in partnership with Faringdon Council and is a fantastic opportunity for Faringdon based voluntary organisations to promote themselves and their volunteering opportunities and meet potential volunteers.
Its also an opportunity to find out how Oxfordshire Community and Voluntary Action (OCVA) and the Faringdon Town Council can help support volunteers to find their ideal volunteering opportunity and help organisations to develop their “offering” and recruit potential volunteers.
OCVA helps communities by supporting and empowering volunteers, networks, partnerships and non-profit organisations big and small.
Faringdon Council takes a lead role in community development. It supports and encourage the establishment of new clubs, particularly for youth groups and the elderly, such as playgroups, neighbourhood watches and adult literacy schemes. The Town Council strives to include the socially isolated and the vulnerable within these community projects and volunteers and events such as The Big Volunteer Event play a key part in that.
The Mayor of the Town Council, Cllr. Dr Mike Wise, states that “It is an opportunity for Faringdon to celebrate volunteering in all its diversity and encouraging the community to think about all the different kinds of volunteering opportunities available. From trustees and campaigners to carers and fundraisers, the town thrives, in these difficult times, thanks to the contribution of its many different volunteers.
“It promises to be a wonderful local, community focused event that is family friendly and that matches volunteers with local volunteering opportunities that make a real difference to Faringdon and help build a real sense of community.” says Cllr. Kiera Bentley, Chair of OCVA and councillor
At the event there will be up to 25 stall holders of “not for profit” or voluntary organisations that deliver services in Faringdon promoting the work they do and recruiting volunteers for their services.
There will also be a number of the fun activities as well as a community café, music and stalls in the centre of Farigdon.
It’s anticipated up to 300 people from the local community will attend the event.
The event will take place at The Corn Exchange, Corn Market, Faringdon on Saturday 8th June from 10am to 1.30pm. However, stall holders are expected to be there at 9.00 am for a briefing and to set up their table / stand.
