If you’re a job seeker or thinking of starting your own business, then South and Vale Business Support’s events could be perfect for you.
A PopUp Business School has been arranged to deliver a free five-day workshop in Shrivenham for people looking to start or expand their own businesses. Each day from 7-11 October, the dynamic programme will be held at the Viscountess Barrington’s Memorial Hall, from 10am to 3pm, to give practical advice on how to get a business idea off the ground through a series of hands-on workshops.
The informal workshops help give people the vital skills they need to help them make money doing what they love, and everyone is welcome to attend all week or just turn up to the workshops they feel are most useful.
For people wanting to kick start their career or for those returning to work after a break, there’s an extensive Job Fair at Cornerstone Arts Centre on 15 October. Over 20 businesses have already signed up to showcase their full and part-time vacancies from various sectors including motor, hospitality, retail and food industries.
The job fair is in partnership with Soha Housing and completely free for all job seekers and employers wishing to attend. For those looking for vacancies, no pre-booking required – simply go along anytime from 1-5.30pm to have a chat with the business representatives and find out what new opportunities will be available.
Cllr Bethia Thomas, Cabinet Member for Development and Regeneration at Vale of White Horse District Council said, “I’m very excited for both events but I’m particularly looking forward to the PopUp Business School coming to Shrivenham. It’s a great opportunity for people across the districts, and with Honda announcing their closure a few months ago, we’re to do what we can to support local people affected in the area.”
Cllr Robin Bennett, Cabinet Member for Development and Regeneration at South Oxfordshire District Council said, “If you are a school leaver, returning to work or want to take a completely different career direction, then please come to the job fair and find out what’s on offer. We are delighted to bring both free events to help people succeed in whatever occupation they choose and to support our local businesses and help people start new ones.”
