Oxfordshire County Council will be undertaking footway maintenance and resurfacing work to the Market Place in Faringdon between the junction with Swan Street/London Street and the junction with Gloucester Street/Marlborough Street. This will also extend up Church Street as far as All Saints Church.
The works are programmed to commence on Monday 8th August 2022 and are expected to last for up to 3 weeks, subject to any bad weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances during construction.
Works will include ironwork adjustments and the resurfacing of all footways around the Market Place to provide a safer and more sustainable walking surface.
Traffic Management
To enable these works to be carried out safely, the works will be carried out under a series of full weekday, daytime road closure from 07:00-19:00hrs. The Market Place will be fully reopened to traffic outside of these hours. A signed diversion route will be put in place for the scheme duration. The works are being carried out under the following phases:
Phase 1: Mon 8th – Fri 12th 07:00-19:00 – Full Road closure to enable surfacing of Marlborough Street footway (south side).
Phase 2: Mon 15th – Fri 19th 0700-19:00 – Full Road closure to enable surfacing of Marlborough Street footway (north side).
Phase 3: Mon 22nd – Fri 26th 07:00–19:00 – Full Road closure to enable surfacing of Church Street & London Street footways.
Vehicular access to all properties around the Market Place will be affected by the works and restricted between the hours of 07:00-19:00, although we will endeavour to accommodate individual specific requirements in an emergency.
Pedestrian access will be maintained wherever possible for all shops and businesses affected. Works will be limited to a specific area of footway to be fully completed within a single shift, moving along from one day to the next. Pedestrians will be directed to utilise the footway on the opposite side of the road with additional access provided and marshalled by gatemen on site to those premises situated within the works area.
Staff will be positioned at either end of the closure and at strategic points to ensure the safety of the public and workforce. We ask that you give them your full support whether you are a pedestrian, cyclist or motorist.
We apologise unreservedly for any inconvenience this may cause.
